Bears in the Northbrae Fountain

There’s a large traffic circle in Northbrae, Berkeley where drivers enter and exit madly off in all directions. At the center of this circle is a fountain that is decorated with four sculpted bears. This fountain is located along one of my favourite running routes. I’ve run past this local landmark dozens of times, never stopping to take a closer look. Until yesterday.

I was walking into town with Scott, and I had my camera at the ready to capture the best of autumn. As we waited to cross the street at the circle, I zoomed in on the fountain with my camera. I noticed that someone had attached a lacy white beaded collar to one of the bears, in likely tribute to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away in September. I believe that the late great RBG, who was known for her stylish jabots, would have delighted in the whimsy of this gesture.
